Gerard Gibbs and Organyzed Crime
Gerard Gibbs, a Detroit-born jazz organist, played at Cliff Bell’s on Saturday, September 17, at 9:30 p.m. A protégé and friend of jazz organ legend Richard “Groove” Holmes, he carries on a rich jazz tradition. Tickets were $10.
Gerard William Gibbs has loved jazz since his dad introduced him at age three. At seven, he met jazz organ legend Richard “Groove” Holmes, who became his mentor and friend until Holmes passed in 1991. Raised in Detroit, Gibbs trained in classical piano but always stayed closer to jazz. His show at Cliff Bell’s brought classic jazz organ sounds with his own unique touch.
