Aguanko album release show at Cliff Bell’s
Aguankó, led by percussionist and composer Alberto Nacíf, played a concert on Thursday, December 22, 2016, at 8 p.m. at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit, unveiling their Christmas album with a rich mix of jazz-infused Son-Salsa.
Led by Alberto Nacíf, Aguankó blends jazz tradition with Son-Salsa and Afro-Cuban folkloric rhythms, recalling the sounds of Eddie Palmieri’s La Perfecta Orchestra and the Fort Apache Band. The December 22 show doubled as the official release of their Christmas album, featuring band members Paul Vornhagen, Javier Barrios, Patrick Prouty, Wesley Reynoso, Paul Finkbeiner, Russ Miller, Chris Smith, Alex Nacif, and special guest percussionist José “Pepe” Espinosa. Their sophisticated yet approachable sound combines jazz with driving funk and deep Latin flavor.
