Sean Dobbins Tribute to Miles & Coltrane
Detroit-area drummer Sean Dobbins pays tribute to Miles Davis and John Coltrane on Saturday, November 14, with sets at 7 and 9 p.m. at Blue LLama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor. Cover is $25, and you can reserve a table.
Sean Dobbins got his start young as a sought-after Detroit-area sideman, playing regularly with Blue Note artist Louis Smith. He's won the Woody Herman Jazz Award and the Louis Armstrong Scholarship, and his playing and teaching have drawn plenty of press, radio and documentary attention.
He has performed, toured or recorded with Benny Golson, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Joey DeFrancesco, Barry Harris, Mose Allison and many more. His sound is hard-driving, solid rhythm with a fresh melodic sensibility, shaped by Art Blakey and the one and only Elvin Jones.
There are two sets, at 7 and 9 p.m.
