Date Night Japan: Honey Miso Short Ribs

This class focused on slow-braised honey miso short ribs, served alongside taro root or daikon mash and finished with a striking black sesame panna cotta. Attendees were encouraged to bring their favorite bottle of wine, complemented by suggested pairings: smooth Junmai Ginjo sake for starters, light and earthy Pinot Noir with the main course, and sweet plum wine for dessert.

Held in a cozy setting with 12-20 students, participants teamed up in groups of four to share workstations and cooking tools inside Eastern Market’s Shed 5. Comfortable closed-toe shoes and hair tied back were recommended for comfort and safety. Evelyn’s Midtown Kitchen enforced strict hygiene standards, including multiple hand washings.

The lively 2 to 2.5-hour session kept everyone on their feet cooking, promoting a hands-on, engaging experience as they explored the flavors of this Japanese-inspired menu in a friendly environment.
