Painting the Process: A Portrait Unveiling
Marygrove Conservancy unveils a new large-scale portrait of Dr. Hubert Massey by Detroit artist Richard Wilson on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. in Detroit, as part of Detroit Month of Design. Expect studio artists showing work, light refreshments, and a guided historic campus tour.
Richard Wilson’s new large-scale portrait catches Dr. Hubert Massey mid-creation, sketching a fresco—more a glimpse of process than a static likeness. The unveiling is part of Detroit Month of Design and takes place in Marygrove Conservancy’s Madame Cadillac – Denk Chapman space.
Artists with studios at Marygrove will share their own work throughout the evening, with chances to talk directly with the campus creative community. Light refreshments will be served. A guided historic tour explores the campus’s architectural heritage and how design, preservation, and adaptive reuse shape a community-centered cultural hub.
