Sonic Memory Circles
Sonic Memory Circles, a community-centered program, runs Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 3 p.m. at Marygrove Conservancy in Detroit. With Sophiyah E. and community members, expect a guided talk, sound-based demo, and an interactive exhibition; free with RSVP.
Sonic Memory Circles explores the meeting point of archival sound, lived experience, and the science of sound wellness. Each session features a guided conversation with a community member, a sound-based demonstration shaped by their story, and an interactive exhibition.
Drawing from DSC’s archival holdings—historic recordings, oral histories, and visual material—Sophiyah E. and guests later return with a curated playback and Q&A listening session. Reimagined performances and recorded conversations are added back into the DSC archive, building a living resource of sonic testimonies over time.
