Film: Paris Is Burning
Affirmations LGBTQ+ Community Center screens Paris Is Burning on Thursday, October 22, at 6:30 p.m. at Affirmations in Ferndale, hosted by Jey’nce. Jennie Livingston's landmark documentary dives into 1980s New York drag ball culture.
Paris Is Burning (1990) follows the Black and Latinx queer and trans communities who built New York's ballroom scene, with its houses, chosen families, voguing and fierce categories of self-expression. More than thirty years later, its influence still shows up in queer art, language and performance.
The screening is presented with Michigan Humanities and hosted by Jey’nce. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and runs until about 8:30 p.m.
