Owen Broder & Cowboys & Frenchmen
Owen Broder and the jazz quintet Cowboys & Frenchmen played at Detroit’s Cliff Bell’s on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at 7 p.m. Their performance was inspired by their new album, Bluer Than You Think.
Hailing from New York City, Cowboys & Frenchmen feature a unique instrumentation with two alto saxophones leading the way, exploring the balance between individual expression and group harmony in jazz. Their second album, Bluer Than You Think, was released in October 2017 following critical acclaim for their debut, Rodeo. The band has appeared at several prominent jazz festivals including in Washington D.C. and Umbria, Italy. Their name references a David Lynch short film, reflecting their approach of blending traditional jazz with fresh, genre-bending ideas.
