Colton Weatherston Septet
Detroit native Colton Weatherston returned from Philadelphia to lead his Detroit Family Reunion Jazz Arkestra at Cliff Bell’s on Thursday, December 21, 2017, at 8 p.m. They played vocal jazz standards, chanson, and bebop classics.
Colton Weatherston brought a crisp evening of swinging vocal jazz to the Cliff Bell’s crowd, leading his Detroit Family Reunion Jazz Arkestra. The septet performed timeless tunes by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Django Reinhart. Besides Colton’s vocals and guitar, the lineup featured Shannon Wade on bass, Bob Mervak on piano, Nate Winn on drums, Matt Martinez on trombone, Joshua James on clarinet and saxophone, and Jimmy Smith on trumpet. It was a true nod to classic jazz, delivered with energy and skill.
