Dawn Giblin Trio
The Dawn Giblin Trio featuring Dawn Giblin, Mike Karoub, and James Dapogny played Sunday, January 28, 2018, at 7:30 p.m. at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit. They brought the 1920s to 1940s jazz and popular standards to life in a unique trio setting.
Dawn Giblin is a trained vocalist focusing on the jazz and popular songs of the 1920s to 1940s, channeling legends like Connee Boswell, Billie Holiday, Mildred Bailey, and Ella Fitzgerald. Detroit cellist Mike Karoub, recognized as a pioneer of jazz cello, brings the spirit of great horn players like Louis Armstrong and Bunny Berigan to his powerful and skilled cello playing. Veteran jazz pianist James Dapogny, originally from Chicago and now in Ann Arbor, covers it all from the roaring style of Jelly Roll Morton to the stride of Fats Waller and the sophisticated swing of Teddy Wilson. Each artist stands out on their own, but together they formed a dynamic trio that impressed the audience at Detroit’s legendary Cliff Bell’s jazz club.
