Gemini’s Birthday Celebration
Laz and San Slomovits celebrated their 152nd birthday with a show on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at The Ark in Ann Arbor, joined by Emily and the Good Mischief Band. They’ve been playing The Ark every year since 1973.
Laz and San Slomovits, the folk duo known as Gemini, moved to Ann Arbor in 1973 and have performed annually at The Ark ever since. About twenty years ago, San’s daughter Emily stepped on stage with them, forming the trio Gemily. Their repertoire blends traditional American and British Isles folk, ’60s folk revival, klezmer, pop, and originals, highlighted by tight harmonies and rich instrumentation. The birthday show featured Emily plus Mike Morrison on drums and Eric Fithian on bass, capturing the joy and ease they bring to every performance.
