The Jacob Jolliff Band
The Jacob Jolliff Band, one of the leading progressive bluegrass groups, played on Monday, May 19, 2025, at 8 p.m. at The Ark in Ann Arbor. Led by mandolin master Jolliff, they performed a mix of original instrumentals and vocal pieces.
Jacob Jolliff is recognized as one of the premier contemporary mandolinists worldwide. He graduated from Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship and won the 2012 USA National Mandolin Championship. A staple in the bluegrass scene, he has collaborated with many notable musicians and toured extensively with Joy Kills Sorrow and Yonder Mountain String Band. He now leads his own ensemble, pushing the boundaries of progressive bluegrass. Their latest album, released in May 2024, is titled “Instrumentals, Vol. 2: Mandolin Mysteries.” The band's music blends intricate original instrumentals and vocals, ranging from traditional bluegrass to unexpected pop covers.
