OOPAPADA featuring Dr. Prof. Leonard King at Cliff Bell’s
Dr. Prof. Leonard King and his band OOPAPADA played at Detroit’s Cliff Bell’s on Friday, August 17, starting at 9 p.m., blending blues, jazz, Cuban music, and more into their set.
Leonard King started playing professionally at age 12 and calls his music “the music of my ancestors,” spanning blues, rhythm ’n’ blues, Cuban tunes, and jazz. OOPAPADA is currently a quintet with John Douglas on trumpet, Alex Colista on sax, Matt Lorusso on guitar, Sam Harris on bass, and Dr. Prof. Leonard King on drums and vocals. The band has gone through many incarnations since the 1960s, always aiming to deliver a rich musical experience at their performances like this one at Cliff Bell’s. The show was a vibrant mix of styles from a legendary Detroit musician.
