Philippe LeJeune Trio
French pianist Philippe LeJeune played a jazz, blues, and boogie-woogie set on Thursday, November 29, at 8 p.m. at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit, mixing classic blues and jazz tunes with his own expressive style.
Philippe LeJeune is a French pianist who’s been steeped in blues and jazz since the late '60s, inspired by the greats like Memphis Slim, with whom he recorded a piano duet in 1980. His performances are soulful and lively, blending classic boogie-woogie, blues, and jazz with personal flair. He’s a familiar face at American jazz festivals and clubs and often tours Europe and beyond. This Detroit gig at Cliff Bell’s was part of that journey and offered a rich selection of groove-heavy tunes for $10 a ticket.
