Carl Cafagna & North Star Jazz at Cliff Bell’s
On Thursday, February 28 at 8 p.m., Carl Cafagna led North Star Jazz through a diverse instrumental journey at Detroit’s Cliff Bell’s. Their three-horn front line and stunning arrangements made for a captivating night.
Carl Cafagna, a Berklee-trained bandleader, brought together North Star Jazz musicians including Scott Gwinnell on piano, James Hughes on saxophones, Jordan Schug on bass, Scott Kretzer on drums and Dr. Scott Cowan on trumpet. The blend of East Coast sophistication with Midwestern grit, highlighted by a three-horn frontline and breathtaking compositions, took the audience on a distinct jazz odyssey. Known for being among the first bands booked at the 2006 reopening of Cliff Bell’s, North Star Jazz enjoyed bringing their sound back to this Detroit venue.
