Joey DeFrancesco
Joey DeFrancesco played two 75-minute sets on Wednesday, August 7, 2019, at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit. The jazz organ master charged $35 per set, offering Detroit a night with one of the greats on the live jazz scene.
Raised in Philadelphia, Joey DeFrancesco’s roots in jazz, blues, and other musical forms deeply shape his sound, which combines traditional organ jazz with a fresh, modern style. He reignited organ jazz in the 1980s after it had faded out, playing the vintage Hammond organ with a distinctive touch. A four-time Grammy nominee with over 30 albums leading his own groups, DeFrancesco has worked with jazz legends and won multiple awards. His dual performances at Cliff Bell’s brought a memorable night for Detroit jazz fans.
