James Carter & Hot Club of Detroit
James Carter, one of Detroit’s top jazz musicians, played two shows on Friday, December 20, 2019, at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. at Cliff Bell’s. This was his one local annual gig backed by the Hot Club of Detroit, revisiting his tribute album "Chasing the Gypsy" honoring guitarist Django Reinhardt.
James Carter is known worldwide for his jazz mastery and comes to Detroit once a year for a special show. At Cliff Bell's, he performed twice with the Hot Club of Detroit, bringing to life the music from "Chasing the Gypsy," his tribute to Belgian guitarist Django Reinhardt. Carter's 2018 debut on Blue Note Records featured his Organ Trio in "Live From Newport Jazz," a live recording blending soul jazz with Reinhardt's influence. These concerts celebrated both musical artistry and local jazz heritage.
