Mike Monford & Detroit Effervescence Concert

Mike Monford’s passion for music started at age four digging through his father’s jazz and R&B albums. As a teen, he embraced hip-hop and DJing before settling on the saxophone. He studied privately with jazz masters like Teddy Harris Jr. and Phil Lasley, and soaked up Detroit’s jazz scene at famous clubs. At the Hartt School of Music, he learned from jazz legend Jackie McLean. Mike spent 20 years in New York honing his craft, recording, and performing with top jazz musicians. His 2012 debut album, "Perseverance," features Grammy winner Marc Cary, Tarus Mateen, Steve Williams, and Rayse Biggs. At Cliff Bell’s, Mike Monford played alongside Rayse Biggs (trumpet), William Hill (piano), Marion Hayden (bass), and Alex White (drums).
