ELEW
ELEW, aka Eric Robert Lewis, performed at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit on Saturday, October 23, with shows at 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. His blend of traditional jazz with modern rock and pop elements made for a standout evening.
Eric Robert Lewis, known as ELEW, reshapes jazz by weaving in modern rock and pop sounds. A Manhattan School of Music scholar who toured with jazz greats like Wynton Marsalis, ELEW won the Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition in 1999—an honor that recognizes a master's knowledge and expression. His two sets at Cliff Bell’s offered Detroit a fresh, inventive take on jazz that bridges past and present in a compelling way.
