New York's all-female brass band Brass Queens played Sunday, October 13, at 7 p.m. at Detroit’s Cliff Bell’s. They mix New Orleans brass tradition with the vibrant energy of the Big Apple, opening act was the Detroit Party Marching Band.
Brass Queens is an eight-piece female brass band from Brooklyn that brings New Orleans brass music traditions to life with a fresh, energetic style. Since forming in 2019, they’ve become a key part of New York’s music scene through street performances and pop-up shows. Even during the pandemic, they kept the music going and have played major venues like Blue Note Jazz Club and Brooklyn Bowl. Their sound, showcased on their Royal Street EP and the October 27 release Black & Gold, blends upbeat, diverse brass tunes. The Detroit Party Marching Band opened from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. The show took place at Cliff Bell’s with tickets priced at $25.
