Kasan Belgrave Quartet and Session
Saxophonist Kasan Belgrave, a rising jazz talent, played at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. The show had two sets, showcasing his original compositions blending bebop, fusion, and gospel influences.
Kasan Belgrave, nurtured in Detroit's jazz scene under the mentorship of his father, trumpeter Marcus Belgrave, brings a fresh voice with his energetic playing and original tunes, featured on his album "Dual Citizen." His sound mixes early bebop, gospel, and fusion, reflecting deep musical curiosity.
The band included bassist Jonathan Muir-Cotton, drummer Louis Jones, pianist Brendon Davis, trumpeter Allen Dennard, and trombonist/bassist Michael Abbo, artists well rooted in the Detroit jazz community. The event at Cliff Bell’s had two start times: the first show began at 7:30 p.m., the second at 9:30 p.m. Musicians bringing their instruments didn’t pay cover.
