Tariq Gardner’s Evening Star
Detroit drummer and 2018 U of M SMTD grad Tariq Gardner played Evening Star at Cliff Bell’s on Sunday, November 16, 2025, with shows at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Evening Star blends Detroit’s jazz heritage with the diverse styles of the African Diaspora in a cosmic musical journey.
Evening Star is a space odyssey led by Tariq Gardner, rooted in Detroit’s rich jazz legacy and exploring the musical galaxies of the African Diaspora like jazz, neo-soul, Afro-Cuban, Negro spirituals, and hip-hop. The show travels light years into the cosmos while staying grounded in its Motherland roots. Doors at Cliff Bell’s opened at 4 p.m. for dinner; the first show offered seating for dinner starting at 5, and the second show began seating at 7 p.m.
