Hearts and Minds
Chicago’s progressive jazz trio Hearts & Minds played at Detroit’s Cliff Bell’s on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. Their unique mix of unusual instrumentation and modern electronics made this show stand out.
Hearts & Minds blend jazz traditions with contemporary electronic sounds to create a distinctive vibe. Jason Stein on bass clarinet and Paul Giallorenzo on analog synthesizer teamed up with drummer Chad Taylor, who brings experience from Chicago’s free jazz and electronic scenes. Their set combined synth-driven grooves and avant-garde improvisation, making for an energetic yet thoughtful evening. The authentic jazz club atmosphere at Cliff Bell’s highlighted the adventurous spirit of the music. There were two showtimes with dinner seating available between them. Tickets cost $25.
