The Paxton/Spangler Band Featuring Doug Brown
The Paxton/Spangler Band with Tbone Paxton, RJ Spangler, and pianist Doug Brown played Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe in Grosse Pointe Farms. They delivered a rich set of classic jazz and soul tunes rooted in Detroit's ’80s and ’90s scene.
Tbone Paxton on trombone and vocals joined forces with percussionist RJ Spangler and pianist/vocalist Doug Brown for a lively show at Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe. Doug had just released his first jazz album featuring notable players Billy Hart and Cameron Brown. The group’s setlist mixed timeless songs from artists like Fats Waller, Leonard Cohen, Duke Ellington, and Louis Jordan. Backed by guitarist Matt LoRusso, bassist Trevor Lamb, and drummer Sean Perlmutter, the band brought decades of Detroit and New Orleans musical connections to the stage.
