Nick Collins Sextet
Drummer and bandleader Nick Collins played with his sextet on Saturday, August 23, at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. at Ann Arbor’s Blue LLama Jazz Club. His energetic set featured hard-swinging originals and Detroit jazz scene all-stars in the band.
Nick Collins leads a band that has been a staple at the Blue LLama Jazz Club since 2022, performing both as a trio and a sextet. The group plays a mix of high-energy original tunes, including some rare pieces, with consistent bandmates who are Detroit jazz veterans. The sextet includes Rick Roe on piano, Jeff Pedraz on bass, Dwight Adams on trumpet, Andrew Bishop on saxophone, and Ben Lafo on trombone. Over the years, they have hosted notable guest artists and filled late-night and main stage sets alike. The two sets on August 23 showcased their dynamic and swinging style in Ann Arbor.
