Firas Zreik Jazz Quartet
Firas Zreik, kanun virtuoso and composer, played two sets at 6 and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, at Ann Arbor's Blue LLama Jazz Club. The Palestine-born, New York-based artist blended maqam tradition with innovative, improvisational jazz sounds.
Firas Zreik’s music plunges into emotional depth through the maqam tradition and microtonal soundscapes. He preserves the kanun's distinct tones while pushing it into fresh, evolving territory, crafting a unique atmosphere in Ann Arbor. With his 8-piece band, he presented new originals and lyrical, contemporary compositions rooted in traditional music.
