Allen Dennard Quintet
Detroit-born trumpeter, composer, and activist Allen Dennard played with his quintet on Friday, November 14, at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. at Ann Arbor's Blue LLama Jazz Club. Known for his three albums including the Detroit Music Award-nominated Flashback, Dennard was an active figure in the local jazz scene.
Allen Dennard picked up the trumpet at age nine and returned to jazz after a stint in classical music during middle school, studying icons like Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis. Mentored by Detroit legend Marcus Belgrave, Dennard has led three groups, including this quintet, performing widely in Michigan and the Midwest. The show featured two sets at the Blue LLama Jazz Club, showcasing his evolving jazz sound and leadership.
