Sunny Wilkinson Trio
Sunny Wilkinson, a jazz vocalist known for pushing boundaries, performed two sets on Sunday, March 22, at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Blue LLama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor. She shared her distinct voice and style in a cozy club setting.
Sunny Wilkinson has worked with jazz legends like The Count Basie Orchestra and Clark Terry, releasing four CDs as a leader. Her latest, "Into the Light," celebrates family, friendship, and her extended musical community with clear, heartfelt vocals. Beyond performing, she led the vocal jazz program at Michigan State University for 18 years and is currently on faculty at Western Michigan University and artist-in-residence at the University of Michigan. During her Ann Arbor show, she played with Ron Newman on piano, Ed Fedewa on bass, and Larry Ochiltree on drums. If you ever wondered how one of jazz's unique voices sounds live, this was your chance.
