Russ Macklem Detroit Quintet
Trumpeter and composer Russ Macklem played at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe in Grosse Pointe Farms on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 6 to 10:30 p.m. His quintet, featured at the 2024 Detroit Jazz Festival, is known for cutting-edge jazz and preparing a new album to record soon. A prime chance to hear fresh jazz sounds live.
Russ Macklem, based around Detroit and Windsor, is a trumpeter, composer, and educator who made a mark with his 2023 debut album, The South Detroit Connection, which received a JUNO nomination. Notably, it was the first live album recorded in Windsor in 22 years, since Detroit trumpet legend Marcus Belgrave. Macklem’s quintet includes Marcus’s son, saxophonist Kasan Belgrave, and played a headlining set at the 2024 Detroit Jazz Festival. They’re gearing up to record a new album in March 2025. Russ regularly performs at MotorCity Wine and other Midwest spots, bringing sharp, modern jazz to listeners at places like the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe.
