Future Visions feat. Michael Zaporski
Michael Zaporski, blending American jazz with West African-inspired rhythms, played at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe in Grosse Pointe Farms on Saturday, April 19, at 6 p.m. He's known for his work with jazz legends and for leading his own band on noteworthy festivals and college stages.
Michael Zaporski was the pianist for Detroit saxophonist Sam Sanders and toured West Africa teaching jazz through the U.S. State Department. That experience connected him with jazz icons like Jackie McLean and Marcus Belgrave. With his group FutureVisions, he's headlined festivals and colleges and released acclaimed recordings, including the jazz spiritual The Prophet for orchestra, chorus, and jazz quartet. His concerts combined West African rhythmic concepts with haunting melodies and high energy, carrying forward the American jazz tradition with his unique voice.
