Jess Merritt & The Understorey
Ann Arbor singer-songwriter Jess Merritt and her band, The Understorey, played at The Ark on Monday, February 13, at 8 p.m. This show celebrated Jess's 40th birthday and marked her return to the stage after a five-year break.
Jess Merritt's rich, soulful voice and versatile style took the audience on a memorable journey through power ballads, blues, soul, and pop. The concert was a "musical memoir," mixing original songs and covers with personal stories about her path to self-renaming and reclaiming. The Understorey is made up of longtime collaborators and new members, adding fresh energy to the performance.
