Ralphe Armstrong Trio

Ralphe Armstrong got his start fresh out of Cass Technical High School when he joined John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra at 17, standing out with his fretless bass. He later played with fusion legend Jean-Luc Ponty alongside guitarists Allan Holdsworth and Steve Smith. On this night at Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe, Armstrong's jazz fusion mastery was on full display. After focusing on his family for several years, he returned to performing, teaching, and serving on the Detroit Federation of Musicians board. His experience and skill made this trio performance a special one.
