Hawktail + Väsen

Väsen, the duo of Mikael Marin and Olov Johansson, has refined a unique sound over nearly 40 years, blending ancient and modern styles rooted in Uppland’s traditional music. Their playful and telepathic interplay on various stringed instruments delivers intense and humorous performances. Hawktail (formerly Haas Kowert Tice) features four seasoned musicians from groups like Crooked Still and Punch Brothers, combining bluegrass, classical influences, and imaginative virtuosity. The concert at The Ark in Ann Arbor showcased both groups’ new albums—Väsen’s “Melliken” and Hawktail’s “Place of Growth.” This event has already taken place but was a memorable musical evening.
