Mystic Pizza: the Julia Roberts film becomes a hit-packed musical at the Fox Theatre
Big League Productions' touring musical Mystic Pizza stops at Detroit's Fox Theatre on Friday, January 22, 2027, at 7:30 p.m.. Best friends Kat, Daisy and Jojo chase love and figure out who they are while slinging slices at a small-town pizza joint, backed by '80s and '90s hits like Hit Me With Your Best Shot and Manic Monday.
Mystic Pizza is based on the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer movie that launched Julia Roberts' career, with story and characters by Amy Holden Jones. On stage, best friends Kat, Daisy and Jojo look for love and their own place in the world at the iconic pizza joint in Mystic, Connecticut, while life keeps throwing them curveballs. Sandy Rustin wrote the musical, Carmel Dean did the arrangements and orchestrations, and Jennifer Werner (The Book of Mormon) directs and choreographs. The songs include Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Hold On and Manic Monday; Stage Scene LA called it a surefire hit, and NJ Stage called it funny, heartwarming and nostalgic.
The tour is part of the 2026-27 Fox Theatre Series presented by Fifth Third Bank, with three shows in Detroit. The Fox Theatre is at 2211 Woodward Avenue, Detroit.
