Miles Brown’s Middle Game
Miles Brown’s band, Middle Game, played at Detroit’s Cliff Bell’s on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at 9 p.m. They performed original and freely improvised tunes inspired by the improvisational spirit of the chess middle game.
Middle Game featured Miles Brown on bass, Andrew Bishop on saxophone, Kris Johnson on trumpet, Mike Jellick on piano, and Jesse Kramer on drums. The band’s name nods to the chess middle game where creativity and improvisation take center stage within certain rules. Their set was mostly original compositions by Miles and bandmates, blending composed pieces with free improvisation. The show took place at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit, with a $10 cover charge.
