Flint Symphony Orchestra: Bernstein, Gershwin and Hanson

The program is built around three American heavyweights: Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story, George Gershwin's Concerto in F, and Howard Hanson's Symphony No. 2, the "Romantic." Haochen Zhang won gold at the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2009 and received an Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2017.

An Inside the Music pre-concert talk starts at 6:30 p.m. During intermission, students 13 and older can go backstage, meet FSO musicians and enjoy Enzo's pizza.

Good to know: no one under 5 is admitted, including babies in arms. The concert runs about 2 hours 30 minutes with intermission. An ASL interpreter will be there, and the sound is loud, with a full orchestra and percussion. The concert is also livestreamed and available on demand for 30 days. Genesee County residents get a lower price, and package and group deals are available.
