Colton Weatherston Concert
Detroit-born singer and guitarist Colton Weatherston played a show at Cliff Bell’s on Thursday, July 21, at 8 p.m., leading a trio exploring the American Songbook influenced by Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, and Chet Baker.
Colton Weatherston came back to the stage at Cliff Bell’s in Detroit, leading a trio with Duncan McMillan on Hammond B-3 organ and Karen Tomalis on drums. The set featured smooth vocals and rich Hollowbody guitar tones, diving into American Songbook classics filtered through Colton’s main influences—Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino, and Chet Baker. The trio added cool vibes by mixing in rare grooves, soulful bossa nova, and French chanson flavors, like cruising down West Grand Boulevard in a ’66 Fleetwood after sunset.
