Muskegon Civic Theatre Presents Ragtime
Muskegon Civic Theatre staged the musical Ragtime at the Frauenthal Theater from May 2 to 5, 2024. The show weaves three American stories set in turn-of-the-century New York, featuring strong language and deep social themes.
Based on E.L. Doctorow’s novel, Ragtime was brought to life by composer-lyricist duo Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens with playwright Terrence McNally. It tells three intertwined stories: a repressed upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant, and a young Harlem musician. The musical explores timeless conflicts of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, all tied to the American experience. This production included strong language.
