Tchaikovsky: Winter Dreams
The Frauenthal Theater in Muskegon hosted an all-orchestral concert on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. Presented by the Frauenthal Center, it featured Wagner’s dramatic overture, Kodaly’s Hungarian folk-inspired Dances of Galanta, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 “Winter Dreams.”
Under conductor Scott Speck, the concert at Frauenthal Theater offered a rich orchestral program. You heard Wagner’s overture to Rienzi, setting a dramatic tone, followed by Kodaly’s Dances of Galanta, which reflects Hungarian folk traditions. The highlight was Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1, known as “Winter Dreams,” marking the origins of his signature sound. Tickets were priced from $19 to $69, with a special $5 student music pass. The concert was part of several subscription packages like Premier, Masterworks, and Super Pops.
