In 1946 Jack Ragotzy, Betty Ebert and friends started out as the Village Players, spending their first seasons in a former Methodist church. Then Jack and Betty bought a dairy barn, the company moved in, and the Barn Theatre was born. Actors' Equity pros share the stage with young “Apprentice” actors, and shortly before her death in 1995 Betty Ebert Ragotzy set up the nonprofit Barn Theatre School for Advanced Theatre Training. Summer seasons run from June to early September with eight main-stage productions, plus a late-night Rehearsal Shed bar show after the curtain. In December a Christmas Cabaret wraps up the year; in 2026 it's on December 11.
