01 / The story of this place

Make time for these

Club Baths was the Detroit location of a national chain of gay bathhouses that began in Cleveland in 1965. In 1979 it was one of five gay men's bathhouses operating in Detroit, and a commenter on the Detroit Gay History blog remembered it as the most technologically advanced of them. As the AIDS crisis grew, it closed by the mid-1980s, like every Detroit bathhouse except TNT. Its street address and exact years are not recorded.

  1. Part of the first national chain of gay bathhouses
  2. One of five Detroit bathhouses in 1979
  3. Closed by the mid-1980s
