Make time for these

The Farmington Civic Theater is a C. Howard Crane-designed Art Moderne movie house on Grand River Avenue in downtown Farmington. It opened in late 1940 with about 550 seats downstairs and 200 in the balcony. Officially it was just the Civic Theatre, but it was advertised as the Farmington Civic to avoid confusion with Detroit's Civic. Its only closure came in late 1989, when architect Louis Wiltse turned the balcony into a second auditorium; it reopened as the Farmington Civic 2 on February 2, 1990 with second-run films. It switched to first-run films in September 2021 and still keeps its red-and-white blade marquee.
