Flint Repertory Theatre is Flint's professional not-for-profit theatre, a division of the Flint Institute of Music, performing in the Elgood Theatre building (Bower Theatre) on East Kearsley Street in the Flint Cultural Center. Established in 2018, it focuses on world-premiere plays and musicals and new takes on classics, and it received a 2018 National Theatre Grant from the American Theatre Wing. The 2026-27 season opens with August Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (September 18-October 4, 2026), followed by Rent (November 27-December 13), Jen Silverman's Witch, a New Works Festival of staged readings and the musical Finn. The Ghost Light Cabaret Series fills the Elgood lobby, with an evening of Elton John on October 5, 2026. The Flint Youth Theatre, now part of FIM's Flint School of Performing Arts, also stages family shows such as A Christmas Carol.
