01 / Story
The station’s story
The track originally ran in the open here; Cobo Center’s late-1980s expansion then built around it. The station opened as an infill stop on November 14, 1988, the last of the thirteen. According to the DTC the platform is on the fourth floor near Congress Street, linked to the street by lifts and escalators; of its six doors, the Riverfront Atrium opens to the river and the Congress Garage to the parking deck.
Its name has followed the hall’s: Cobo Hall (1988–1989), Cobo Center (1989–2019), Convention Center (August 2019, when the hall became TCF Center) and finally Huntington Place, with the restart on May 20, 2022. Before the pandemic it was the third-busiest station, with 211,092 boardings in 2019, and it still draws the biggest event crowds; during Youmacon’s long weekend in 2014 the system carried 92,384 riders.
On non-event days the station closes at 10 p.m., when Financial District is the nearest alternative. Autumn 2026 is event season: Youmacon runs here from October 30 to November 1, with the People Mover running until 2 a.m.

What you see from the car
Leaving the hall, the guideway passes the glass concourse and the Detroit River opens up: Windsor across the water, the Riverwalk below. The next stretch is the loveliest on the loop.
